Searching for Probiotics

I think it’s safe to assume if you are reading this blog, a blog dedicated to living gluten free, that you may have a few issues with your stomach and digestion. There are a lot of ads out there telling you all about probiotics and products you can buy to aid in smooth digestion. I have tried many things myself from Activia yogurt to the powdered probiotic you mix in with your drink. I haven’t had any issues with those but they also didn’t do anything positive to my system either. After dealing with stomach issues for a year, I saw a naturopath, Dr. Shawna A. Darou @ Annapurna Naturopathic Women’s Health Clinic. She gave me a lot of great recommendations and assisted me in changing my lifestyle so that I don’t have to deal with the stomach issues anymore. Dr. Darou was trying to figure out what was wrong and eventually make it possible for me to eat normally in the future. Unfortunately I can’t afford continuous sessions with a naturopath so I have stuck with the reco’s she gave me in the handful of sessions I did attend.  I haven’t had any problems since, I don’t eat like a normal person by any means but that doesn’t bother me, I prefer this lifestyle.

One product she did suggest was the Genestra – HMF Forte Probiotics.  The HMF products are powerful probiotics for relief of intestinal health problems. These Human Micro Flora (HMF) are human derived strains which adhere better to the human gastrointestinal tract and work faster than other non-human derived probiotics such as those grown from dairy or animal strains. HMF probiotics are made by Pharmax in the UK and are the only product line of their kind in North America. Each capsule contains a guaranteed minimum 10 billion CFU (colony forming units) and provides two different strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus as well as Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidobacterium animalis. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) is also included in this formula to specifically assist in re-establishing and maintaining a normal “healthy” intestinal flora (good bacteria). Studies show that an overgrowth of “bad bacteria” leads to a lowered immune-system. This is caused by impure water supply, antibiotics, pesticides, processed foods and stress. Stress is a major contributor to the imbalance of “good bacteria” and promotion of harmful bacteria. This can lead to a variety of health issues.

Genestra HMF Forte

Check out the HMF Forte Reviews for yourself, people love this! It has worked very well for me, I take two capsules at night before bed with water. These capsules are guaranteed to contain no added wheat, starch, corn, sodium, sugar, artificial coloring or flavoring or antimicrobial preservatives. Ideal for vegetarians. The capsules are made from 100% pure vegetable sources, free of preservatives and additives.

They aren’t cheap, on line they come up around the $40 price range but in Toronto I can only find them for around $60. I usually purchase these at Amazon. Hopefully this helps you next time you are searching for probiotics.

There’s a place around Bloor and Bathurst called Herbs and Nutrition which has the cheapest price for it that I have found in the city. I think around $46. They have other locations under that name QI Natural Food, but I don’t know if it’s the same price at those locations. It’s under lock and key so you just have to ask for it when you go up to the cash.

Thanks! I’ll have to check it out :)

  2. […] like the HMF Forte probiotic the best. You don’t have to take these everyday for the rest of your lift, I only take them 3 weeks […]

  3. Do these have to be refrigerated?

Yes, definitely. I keep mine in my fridge at all times and if I need to travel somewhere it’s ok to take them out for a few hours. (I double checked their website – I have flown to Europe with them in my bag and they were fine.)

      • Good to know! Thank you. One more Q if you don’t mind. Does yours have the FOS (Fructooligosaccharides)? I’ve never seen, nor used them in a probiotic before and wonder if there;s any side effects.

I checked the ingredient list on my bottle and yes mine do contain that specific ingredient. As far as my experience, I have had no negative side effects to this supplement and I experience ALL side effects when there are any noted. My body is super sensitive so I am confident that you will be fine with these :)
