Gluten Free on The Island

I haven’t posted very much in the last week because I went with my boyfriend to visit my sister at the University she attends in Dominica. It’s not easy traveling with a sensitive tummy but especially to a poor and underpopulated island like Dominica. To prepare for the trip I made homemade granola bars and also packed a box of GF oatmeal travel packs (Glutenfreeda are my favs). While I was there I ate lots of fruit, chicken, grilled plantains and to keep my sugar levels up drank lots of fresh made juice (during Carnival we walked around with our ‘water’ bottle and went to the same lady to top it off with her homemade grapefruit juice, it was the best). There were definitely a couple times where I was really hungry and absolutely couldn’t find anything around me to eat but that just meant I got to shed a couple lbs ;).

We went on lots of excursions, all their excursions are in the rainforest so they all require lots of hiking! The plus about hiking through the rainforest is all the fresh food your guide picks out of nature and gives to you. It’s amazing! Free, fresh, chemical-free food! I tried to take photos of all the cool things we grabbed but I missed a couple and can’t remember what they were because there were so many! These photos are all things that were picked for us while walking around through the trees (except the grilled plantain, that was bought on the street at Carnival).
