Dufflet (the ground-breaking Canadian bakery founded by Dufflet Rosenberg) was kind enough to send me a sample of their new line of dessert products that are completely gluten-free and will satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. The first time I tried a Dufflet cake was on my birthday last year, weirdly enough I got this lovely sample right on my birthday this year! Me and Dufflet are meant to be.
The cake shown above (with my 30th birthday cheese-ball grin) was the Chocolate Gluten Free Cakelet. You can find their cakes and other goodies at their pastry shop on Queen West (787 Queen St W, Toronto) or at your local grocery store like (select) Loblaws or Pusetari’s.
This year I tried the Chocolate Fudge Tarts which are similar to the cake but more like a brownie, they have a nice crust like a pie. The crust was delicious, wasn’t cardboard-like at all (like some gluten free products), it was really light (not dense) and slightly crumbly (eat over a plate). It’s also my boyfriend’s birthday a few days after mine so I shared and have him one of the two tarts. He’s not gluten free at all and SUPER picky and said they were delicious and he would have no idea they were ‘gluten free’. The chocolate is really rich and more like a dark chocolate, again like a brownie.
You can check out the ingredients in the photo below:
This fall, Dufflet® will launch their extended gluten-free line in stores across Ontario and Quebec, which will consist of the following tasty delights and are all certified by the Gluten-Free Certification Program:
• Carrot Cakelet®
• Chocolate Cakelet®
• Pink Velvet Cakelet®
• Lemon Tarts
• Fudge Tarts
• Devil’s Food Cupcakes & Heavenly Vanilla Cupcakes
• Chocolate Chunk Brownie – Chewy fudge brownie with dark chocolate chunks.
• Chocolate Dipped Coconut Macaroon
I suggest throwing these in the microwave for 10-15 seconds at let the chocolate get all gooey like this… (then eat with some vanilla ice cream).
They are also holding a contest on their facebook page where you can enter to win a Dufflet Cakelet, like the one I’m holding in the photo at the beginning of the post :) There is only a day left!
