Apartment Tour: Our Scandinavian Inspired Home

In my last post I mentioned I took some time off to relax and settle in to my new place during December and January, which is actually ‘our’ new place because I moved in with my fiancee! (check out the ring I got here!) It’s definitely the nicest place I’ve ever lived in. I’ve slowly moved up from room mates to super tiny bachelors and now this amazing and large soft loft. It has a bedroom a den and 2 bathrooms!  With this new apartment I had nice floors and nice walls that I could actually design and decorate how I’ve always dreamed which is very much Scandinavian inspired. The picture above was taken from our balcony with no filter, the sky was so amazing that week in Toronto.

I’ve become a bit of a minimalist so sharing a space with someone who isn’t has been a little bit challenging. My fiancee has the den so he can do whatever he wants with that space and that allows me to decorate the rest of the apartment how I like (of course I ask what he thinks too).

This is a view of the living room and a little bit of the dining room/area. You’ve probably seen this area rug ALL over the internet. I really love it, it fits this area perfectly and I really love how subtle the pattern is. I bought it from wayfair on sale with free shipping (delivered to new york where my sister was staying). It does shed a lot but it’s worth it.

The couch is amazing. It’s HUGE! My fiancee can lay across the two couch seats completely and not even touch me while I lay on the chaise. The fabric is thick and easy to clean. I also got this on promo when Ikea had their couch event where you get 20% in gift cards with the purchase of a couch, which was perfect because there were a few other items we needed. It’s called the KIVIK in Isunda Grey. The coffee table is also from Ikea but it’s an older model so they don’t have it any more but they do have the high top version.

The art above the couch was a gift from my fiancee for my Birthday a year ago, it’s from Playdead Cult (toronto based artist). The geometric shapes are from Umbra but there are lots of places you can purchase them online like Indigo (they come in gold and black). The pillows are hard to see but I made those myself.

This is our little dining area and balcony. The table was purchased ‘as-is’ from Design Repubic for about $400. It’s walnut with steel legs, the wood table top is really beautiful. The chairs are from ikea, they are the Vilmar chairs in the black and white pattern.

This is a look at our bedroom, it’s my favourite. It’s all black, white, grey and cream (except 1 lamp). The bedding is from Muji, the throw at the bottom of the bed is the famous Pia Wallen Cross Blanket (it’s expensive but it’s my favourite thing in this room).

The night table on my side is handmade by myself and my fiancee. I purchased the rope and hinges at Home Depot, Kevin cut the wood down and together we hung it up! It wasn’t super easy but easy enough :). The dress is from Ikea, I bought it in the white stain. It hold a lot, all of Kevin’s clothes and one drawer is left for me (I got the closet).

The rug is from overstock, it’s a faux hide. I love the look of hide rugs but I can’t justify owning a real hide, it’s not something I’m comfortable with. It’s a great size and the colour is a nice off white. It’s really soft too and all the ends flattened nicely.

I’m still working on putting art over the bed as I’m not totally loving what I have now. Over to the right is my yamaha keyboard and a tall mirror with black trim.

This is the view from the chaise lounge. I love seeing this while I watch tv. :) There is still a kitchen, den and two bathrooms to show you but I’ll put those in Part 2. This chalkboard is from the kitchen, I bought it at target and whenever I feel creative I can draw something and throw it up on the wall.
